Benitez booed by Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge
The Blues supporters are refusing to forget the bitter rivalry the Spaniard had with the club during his spell in charge of Liverpool.
Don't Miss
- Benitez: I did not expect this so soon
The former Liverpool boss replaced Roberto Di Matteo at the helm this week after the Italian was dismissed after a run of just two wins in eight, but his arrival in west London was met with dismay by many Blues fans.
Benitez had a fractious relationship with Chelsea when his Liverpool team sparred with the Stamford Bridge club in the Champions League, and it appears the supporters of the London club are not willing to forget.
Chelsea fans also offered a tribute to their former player and manager Di Matteo with a round of applause and chanting throughout the 16th minute of the game - the Italian wore that shirt during his four years as a player at the club.
AC Milan 1-0 Juventus: Resurgent Rossoneri upset blunt Bianconeri
Robinho's first half penalty was enough to decide a tight match, and surge Milan up the table, while leaving Juve with a precarious four point lead at the top.
AC Milan ground out a priceless 1-0 victory over Serie A leader Juventus at San Siro on Sunday evening to blow the title race wide open. The Bianconeri suffered only their second defeat in the league this season, after failing to respond to a Robinho penalty after 31 minutes in what was a closely contested match from both sides, which nevertheless lacked much action in front of goal.
Juventus maintains a four point lead at the top of the table, but could see that gap cut to a single point should Inter come away with victory at Parma on Monday, while Milan moves to eighth place with 18 points, jumping five spots in the standings.
Robinho won the race to start up front for the home side ahead of Bojan, with Mattia de Sciglio and Kevin Constant manning both fullback spots in the absence of Ignazio Abate and Luca Antonini.
Juve made only one change from the side that dismantled Chelsea 3-0 in the Champions League midweek, with Isla replacing Stephan Lichtsteiner as the right wing back.
De Sciglio was in the thick of things early on, dragging a shot from the edge of the area wide after five minutes, before forcing Gianluigi Bufon to work to stop his attempt from an angle with his legs, after he was played in by Robinho.
Still, the game struggled to get off the ground, as both teams, despite plenty of effort and encouragement from the crowd, found it hard to settle into a flow in the attacking third.
Antonio Nocerino became the first player booked after a quarter of an hour, after he was caught being a little to eager when attempting to win a loose ball ahead of Caceres.
But the better openings in the match were going Milan's way, and the club found some fortune just after the half hour mark when a soft penalty appeal for handball against Isla went in favor of the home team, after the defender struggled to clear under pressure from Nocerino.
Robinho took responsibilities from the spot, and his shot squeezed into the bottom left corner, despite Buffon getting a strong hand to the attempt.
Juve was simply not good enough in the first half, as despite controlling the majority of possession, looked decidedly out of ideas in attack.
Minutes into the second half, a terrible pass out of defense from Buffon nearly sold Andrea Barzagli short and allowed Stephan El Shaarawy to pounce, but the defender was able to slide in for a crucial tackle.
The introduction of Sebastian Giovinco for Fabio Quagliarella around the hour mark finally sparked Juve into life, as Milan found it hard to advance out of its own half and was guilty of leaving a few gaps on the flanks for the the visiting side to exploit.
The diminutive Italian set up a great opportunity for Mirko Vucinic not long after his introduction, but the Montenegrin could not convert his cross from a good position inside the area.
Philippe Mexes then had to be alert to intercept a very dangerous cross from substitute Simone Padoin, but Juve was still made to respect Milan's threat on the break as a rare second half attack for the home side saw Nocerino charge forward and crash a powerful drive just over.
Yepes forced a save from Buffon with a header from a corner, but Milan were soon forced back into some desperate defending as Juve made a late surge to get something from the match in the closing stages.
With seven minutes remaining, Giovinco again picked out Vucinic inside the area, but Amelia was in the right place to make a superb save to deny the striker from close range.
But Juve could not change its stripes that late in the game, and failed to find another breakthrough as Milan held on to record three vital points to help the recovery of the team's season.
Wenger not to blame for faltering Arsenal - Seaman
The former Gunners goalkeeper says supporters need to look at the financial side of the club before blaming the French manager for the north London side’s poor form

- Wenger: Arsenal adapted to Giroud
But ex-Arsenal No.1 Seaman, who made more than 400 appearances for the club in a 13-year spell, believes the men who pull the purse strings are more at fault than the management.
"For me it's not the manager where the restrictions are, it's the financial restrictions," Seaman told Sky Sports.
"Arsene Wenger was getting a load of stick from the Arsenal fans and there was a chant going round 'Can we have our Arsenal back?'
"Say they didn't have a manager at the moment and Arsene Wenger was out there with his track record, they would take him any day."
The Emirates Stadium has seen an exodus of leading talent in recent seasons, with former captains Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie departing, along with other stars such as Alex Song and Samir Nasri.
And Seaman cites the loss of key players, along with a lack of re-investment as the reason behind the recent malaise surrounding the club.
"Losing your captains all the time - like Van Persie and Fabregas - is like when Patrick Vieira left. It takes the heart out of the team," he added.
"We used to be able to keep our best players and that's why we were winning trophies, but at the moment we can't do that.
"What are people looking at Arsenal for? Are they looking to advance their careers? They're not looking to advance themselves financially because they know they can get more money elsewhere.
"It's going to be hard for them to attract players and what's happening is they're getting players in, making them into great players and then they're having to let them go.
"When Arsene came it was a given that they'd be in the Champions League all the time and we were winning things as well, but you can't do what they're doing at the moment and expect to win trophies."

Arsenal beat Montpellier 2-0 to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League

Lukas Podolski: Scored in the victory for Arsenal
Second-half goals from Jack Wilshere and Lukas Podolski saw Arsenal beat Montpellier and qualify from Champions League Group B.
Laurent Koscielny had the best chance of the first period at the
Emirates but headed against the crossbar from close range from
Wilshere's cross.Wilshere broke the deadlock four minutes after the re-start with a close range effort after Olivier Giroud had headed down skipper Thomas Vermaelen's cross from the left into his path for his first goal since November 2010.
Podolski then played a one-two with Giroud before firing a sublime left-foot volley over Geoffrey Jourdren to seal the win on 63 minutes.
Schalke beat Olympiakos in the other Group B game, meaning Arsenal qualify with the German side ahead of their final group game in Greece in a fortnight.
But the Gunners could have been behind from a quick counter attack as Anthony Mounier got clear behind the defence and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, just back in the side after an injury lay-off, had to come out to the edge of the box to make an important block.
After their two goals, the hosts looked much more assured and Montpellier keeper Jourdren palmed a floated effort from Santi Cazorla over the crossbar as the Gunners looked to extend their advantage.
Giroud was then denied by his former team-mate, who pulled off a point-blank save with his legs after the Arsenal striker was put into the right side of the penalty area by Podolski.
At the other end, substitute Emanuel Herrera shot just wide with a low effort from distance late on.
The win sees Arsenal move into the last 16, sitting a point behind leaders Schalke.
Boss Arsene Wenger will now target victory in Athens next month to keep alive hopes of topping the group and securing a place among Europe's top seeds for the knockout stages.

Arsenal progress as City regress in Europe's top competition
Last Updated: November 21, 2012 11:27pm
A tough night for Manchester City despite spirited display
A mixed night for British football in Europe
saw Arsenal safely through to the knock-out phase of the UEFA Champions
League but it proved to be the end of the line for Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho predicted City's demise in the pre-match verbal sparring and his words proved prophetic; although Roberto Mancini's side demonstrated it might not be too long before they are dining at Europe's top table on equal footing.
Los Merengues were in the ascendancy from the off at the Etihad as they took a tenth minute lead when Karim Benzema profited on an abject piece of ball watching from Maicon. The Brazilian allowed Angel de Maria's cross to pass him as Benzema ghosted in behind to slot home from close range for his 16th goal in his last 20 Champions League appearances.
Whatever Mancini said at the interval had the desired effect. City snarled into action and was it not for a mixture of Sergio Aguero's profligacy from close range and a wonder save from Iker Casillas, they would have been level with just shy of half an hour still to pay.
The Argentine redeemed himself somewhat with 15 minutes left as he won the penalty he subsequently confidently dispatched. Contact from Alvaro Arbeloa, who earned himself a second yellow card into the bargain, was enough to invite a tumble.
Mourinho showed his displeasure when five added minutes were shown on the board as only he can with sarcastic pantomime applause, but City were unable to capitalise and find a winner.
Joining Madrid in the knock-out phase as Group D winners are Borussia Dortmund after the Bundesliga outfit strutted to a comprehensive 4-1 defeat of Ajax in Amsterdam.
Juergen Klopp's expansive and always entertaining outfit were far too strong for an Ajax side that had impressed in Manchester a fortnight ago.
Marco Reus had Ajax on the back foot after just eight minutes when he opened the scoring and the game was dead as a contest by half-time as elegant playmaker Mario Gotze doubled their advantage before the prolific Robert Lewandowski etched his name on the scoresheet. The Pole then added his second of the night after the break.
Danny Hoesen's late riposte proved to be the scantest of consolations for Frank de Boer's well beaten Ajax.
Gunners progress
Arsenal carried the momentum of their derby day demolition of Tottenham at the weekend into their game with Montpellier and while it was hardly a classic, a 2-0 victory comfortably secures their passage to the knock-out round of matches. After what was a scrappy first period Jack Wilshere proved the man on the spot as his smart clipped finish, from Olivier Giroud's towering knock-down off a Thomas Vermaelen left wing delivery, had the Gunners faithful saluting their rejuvenate hero.
With any lingering nerves eased, Arsenal set about playing their football and secured victory with a stunning Lukas Podolski effort. Again Giroud was the architect but this was a moment of opportunism all of the German's design. After he played the ball into the feet of his strike partner a lofted return pass was dispatched via a scorching dipping volley that gave Jeffrey Jourdren not a prayer in Montpellier's goal.
Lukas Podolski registers with a stunning volleyed effort
Malaga qualified for the knockout phase as Group C winners despite a second-half comeback from Zenit St Petersburg.
The points looked like they were heading in only one direction when the Primera Division side took a two-goal lead inside nine minutes - Diego Buonanotte opening the scoring and Sebastian Fernandez profiting from a goalkeeping error.
But Zenit fought back well and goals from Danny and Viktor Fayzulin, four minutes from time, earned them a share of the spoils.
Joining Malaga in the next round are seven-time European champions AC Milan after they saw off Anderlecht 3-1 on their travels.
After what was an evenly contested first period it was left to starlet Stephan El Shaarawy to point the game in Milan's direction as he got the opener.
The contest will not be remembered for El Shaarawy's goal though but rather Milan's second, that saw Philippe Mexes put his side in pole position courtesy of an outlandishly impressive overhead kick that belied his centre-half status. Simply stunning.
Goal of the Night - Mexes
Return on investment
In Group A, Ezequiel Lavezzi who will be the toast of Paris after his brace in Kiev was enough to secure PSG's safe passage into the next round. The former Napoli man struck either side of half-time to down Dynamo and ensure the club's Qatari owners receive their first payback on the most lavish of investments.
Joining them when the competition gets serious will be Porto after the Portuguese giants proved to have too much for Dinamo Zagreb as they won 3-0 in front of their own supporters.
Argentine schemer Lucho Gonzalez put Porto on the right track after 20 minutes and with Zagreb unable to fight their way back into the contest, it was left to Moutinho and Silvestre Varela to hammer the final nails in Dynamo's Champions League coffin in the second period

Roberto Di Matteo says he leaves Chelsea with his head held high despite his dismissal as manager.
Di Matteo's reign at Stamford Bridge lasted just 262 days - six
more than his predecessor Andre Villas-Boas - but during his short time
in charge they won the Champions League and FA Cup.Di Matteo was dismissed in the early hours of Wednesday morning after Chelsea's 3-0 Champions League defeat to Juventus.
Later the same day Rafael Benitez was appointed as interim manager until the end of the season.
Di Matteo said: "I am extremely proud of the successes and trophies that we were able to bring to the club in recent months.
"Lifting Chelsea's first Champions League trophy in Munich was the best achievement in the club's history and without doubt the highlight of my career."
"I have a deep and unreserved passion for Chelsea Football Club and I would like to sincerely thank all of my staff, my players and of course the Chelsea fans for their tremendous support in the intense time I have been manager at the Bridge."
Roberto Mancini admits Manchester City's Champions League exit not unexpected
Last Updated: November 21, 2012 11:00pm
Roberto Mancini: Felt City's fate was sealed long before 1-1 draw with Real Madrid
Roberto Mancini admitted the foundations of
Manchester City's early exit from the Champions League were built long
before their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid.
City took their points haul to only three from five games thanks to
Sergio Aguero's penalty, but despite having a man advantage in the
closing stages they were unable to stay alive with a winning goal. That leaves them needing to beat Borussia Dortmund in Germany next month to have any chance of a place in the Europa League, with their Champions League hopes over in the group stage for a second year running.
"I think that the first half we played so-so, Real Madrid played better than us. Second half we played better, we had one or two chances to score. After we scored the penalty, well the result is correct," Mancini said.
"The first chance they had, they scored. It was a mistake, we were five against two in the box and we concede a goal. When you start like this it is always difficult.
"We were 1-0 down and we didn't have anything to lose in the second half. We pushed up more than the first, we played better, but Real Madrid were better in the first-half.
City crash out of UCL
"I am disappointed as normal, like everyone here, but when we started this group we knew it was a difficult group.
"But we are a good team. We went out and we made some mistakes, but that is the Champions League. We wanted to go to the next stage."
Mancini's name was chanted by City's fans throughout the closing stages of the game and he called on them to continue their support in the Premier League despite their European disappointment.
"The fans are fantastic always - they understand that we are disappointed and for us they are really important because the season is not finished.
"We have the Premier League to play, we are on top, and we have the FA Cup. That's two competitions and we want to have a good year. It's disappointing to be out of the Champions League but now it is finished we can do nothing. I want to be in the Europa League if possible."
