Kljestan turns in game-winning assist in Anderlecht's Champions League triumph

Sacha Kljestan continued his good run of form for Anderlecht, assisting on his second goal in as many games to help the Belgian club to an important 1-0 victory over Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Playing against a number of players he could see again next week if called up for the USA's match against Russia in Krasnodar, Kljestan combined with Dieumerci Mbokani for a 17th-minute strike, which was Anderlecht's first in four games in the competition. Kljestan went on to complete a 90-minute shift to help see out the match for Anderlecht, which trails AC Milan by one point for second place in Group C.

The other team Anderlecht trails is Oguchi Onyewu's Malaga, which netted a 1-1 draw with AC Milan, a result that clinched a place for the club in the knockout stage. Onyewu remained an unused substitute on the bench for Malaga against Milan two weeks after making his competitive debut for the Spanish side against his former Italian club in their other Champions League encounter.

One more American had his team in action in Champions League play as well, as Jermaine Jones's Schalke battled back from a two-goal deficit to tie Arsenal 2-2 and remain atop Group B with two matches remaining in group play. Jones started and played all 90 minutes, picking up a second-half yellow card as he helped his team take four points off the Gunners in their two European encounters.
